The DLP of South Australia condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the Marxist ideologues from Warriors of Aboriginal Resistance who participated in the desecration and burning of our national flag today.

We do not believe that the majority of Aboriginal people endorse the appalling behaviour of these race-baiting scoundrels who are on the record as wanting to "burn" Australia down and "Abolish Australia, not just Australia Day."

It is of note that one of the spokespeople for the group was Wayne Wharton who in 2018 warned of Aboriginal terrorism, claimed Australia was a "crime scene" and threated to "take justice into [his] own hands if confronted by police or counter-protesters.

At the time, he also claimed, ‘Malcolm Turnbull’s statements in the past three weeks are close to inciting [the use of] guns and [activists] taking up terrorism.

The DLP condemns the actions of Wharton and WAR in the strongest possible terms as individuals and organisations that should be subject to Government surveillance. Surveillance and law enforcement bodies must take violent threats of this nature seriously and take action as required to safeguard the lives and health of the Australian public.

In addition, the act of flag-burning on a national day of mourning for HM Queen Elizabeth II is unnecessarily divisive and counterproductive and will continue to set back race relations in this country for years to come.

The DLP is serious about implementing policy that empowers and supports indigenous Australians to be successful and prosperous members of our society and will continue to fight any efforts to stoke division and unrest at the expense of all Australians.
